The full text of Henry Hazlitt’s book Economics in One Lesson, which was first published in 1946, and gave me my grounding of foundation knowledge about this subject. It still amazes me how many of the concepts and ideas contained within it’s pages, remain relevant, right up to the present day.

This essay by John Lanchester for the London Review of Books gives, in my humble opinion, a brilliant exposé of the UK banking crisis in 2008.
In my quest to gain some understanding of global economics and, specifically, the causes of the ‘Credit Crunch’. I found this two part programme from the BBC World Service in December 2007 very helpful. (downloadable mp3 available). Everything predicted in those programmes seems to be coming to pass so, in my view, the explanations given are very accurate indeed!
The BBC has further and extensive coverage, especially from their economics correspondent Robert Peston.
This lecture, given in 1987, by Professor Joseph Peden, on ‘Inflation and the Fall of the Roman Empire’ shows how we can all learn so much from history. The lecture is available here as a transcript or, if you prefer, an mp3 audio podcast can be downloaded directly from the transcript page.
